Introduction

The Virtual Gallery, which consists of a database of Korean photographers and their works, is a project succeeding the Virtual Gallery (http://cezanne.daum.co.kr/gallery/keon/park.html) that was created in 1995 by the late Park Geonhi, joint founder of Daum Communications Corp. The original virtual gallery by Park was the first of its kind in Korea and received international applause.

There exist on-line information services related to Korean photographers and their works, operated by enterprises and individuals. Due to their limitations in scope and form, however, it is necessary to build a broad archive encompassing the entire photograph culture of Korea. Hence, the Park Geonhi Foundation will continue to collect representative works by photographers who have played important roles in forming Korean photography culture, or who are actively working today, and present them to cultural organizations and the general public.
